Halifax

Just a 35 minute drive down the 102, downtown Halifax is perfect for exploring by foot. Halifax is a vibrant city set in a rich historic background from the star shaped Citadel, The Historic British Fortress at the heart of the city, (don't miss the firing of the noon gun, a daily ritual since the mid-19th century) to the modern office towers that overlook Halifax Harbour. On the waterfront is Canada's oldest waterfront buildings, Historic properties, with its unique collection of shops. Take the time to sample some of our many restaurants. Enjoy choice seafood so fresh you'll think you just caught it yourself! Discover some of our maritime history at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, where you can see the artifacts from The Titanic, or learn about the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Stroll around Spring Garden Road and the Victorian Public Gardens, or walk through Canada's "front door" at Pier 21 National Historic site of Canada.

Shubenacadie Tidal Bore Rafting

Feel the force of the world's highest tides, rafting the mighty Shubie River. Ride the famous tidal bore and the ensuing tidal rapids generating waves from 3-16 feet!

Springhill Miners Musuem

Tour the depths of a Springhill coal mine, famous in song and legend, with knowledgeable guides. Hear stories of the disaster of 1891, the 1916 subterranean fire which raged through the galleries, the loss of 39 men in the 1956 explosion and the major "bump" in 1958 which killed 75 men. And be sure to visit the on-site museum to see unique artefacts of the history of the Town and its remarkable industrial heritage.





Shubenacadie Wildlife Park

Approximately 15 minutes away, you can mingle with over 45 different wildlife exhibits throughout the park which contain 33 species of mammals and 65 species of birds. The park also has a large picnic park and a playground. For more information visit http://wildlifepark.gov.ns.ca

Cape Breton Island/Cabot Trail

Cape Breton is a place where sun and sky and sea seem to meet, where mountains rise from the mist as bald eagles soar overhead. Go kayaking, hike the Sky Line Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, reel out your fishing rod, commune close with nature, and step back to the past at historic sites.

Surround yourself with the splendour of the Cabot's Trail bold highlands, where moose and bald eagles abound and humpback whales caper in the shimmering waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Stroll the grassy shores or cruise to international boating destinations along the Bras d'Or Lakes Scenic Drive.

Visit the historical reconstruction of Fortress Louisbourg, wander through centuries old Acadian villages and descend to a coal mine beneath the ocean floor.
